Spirit Empowered witnesses are: Spirit and W.O.R.D.

W.O.R.D.
- Watchful
- Obedient
- Redemptive
- Direct

1. The Spirit Empowered witness can only pass on what they have received (Acts 3:6)

- They could impart the power of Christ because they were full of Christ.
- Acts 3:6:“In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, get up and walk.”
- The healing: Peter commanded the beggar to walk in the name of Jesus Christ.

Restoration (v8) - “He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God.”

Joy (v9) - “When all the people saw him walking and praising God"

Witness (v10)  “they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.”

2. The Spirit Empowered witness is committed to telling the truth (3:12-16)

True power comes from God, not man (12)

- “Fellow Israelites, why does this surprise you? Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk?”

Caution

- There is a great danger of people thinking you are powerful when you live as a Spirit Empowered Witness for Christ.

- There is a great danger you will think you are powerful when you live as a Spirit Empowered Witness for Christ.

- Living as a Spirit Empowered Witness for Christ will bring much attention to your community.

- Living as a Spirit Empowered Witness for Christ will bring much attention to your life.

- You must be cautious not to steal the glory and power of God.

Jesus Christ is alive, glorified and is God (13,16)

You killed the Son of God (13-15)

- You handed him over to be killed.
- You disowned him before Pilate, though he had decided to let him go.
- You disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked that a murderer be released to you.
- You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead

Spirit Empowered + W.O.

- Obedient- we are called to be obedient in sharing the truth of Jesus Christ and of our sin condition.
- Jesus Came
- Jesus Lived
- Jesus Died
- Jesus Rose
- Jesus Lives

3. The Spirit Empowered witness offers hope (17-23)

- Peter displays obedience in sharing the truth of Jesus Christ and of our sinful condition but doesn’t leave the people without hope.

Turn to God-“flee to God” refuge cities

- Numbers 35 “City of Refuge”- Levites set up 6 cities hat provided asylum for perpetrators of unintentional manslaughter.
- If you could make it to the refuge city, you would be protected.
- Christ is the refuge city: Repent, flee to God, so your sins may be blotted out- and times of refreshing may come.

3. The Spirit Empowered witness offers hope (17-23)

Spirit Empowered + W.O.R.

Redemptive
- Jesus came for sinners.
- Jesus set the example for sinners.
- Jesus died for sinners
- Jesus conquered death for sinners.
- Jesus intercedes for the Saints.

4. The Spirit Empowered witness shares the true miracle: Salvation (21-26)

It’s all about Jesus!

- You’re either for God or Against God

(v23) and everyone who does not listen to that prophet will be completely cut off from the people.

Turn from your wicked ways and trust in the Lord Jesus for Salvation.

Spirit Empowered + W.O.R.D.
- Direct

We must be Watchful - listening to the Prompting and Guiding of the Holy Spirit
We must be Obedient - to share the truth.
We must be Redemptive people - offering hope.
We must be Direct - Share the gospel of Jesus Christ with the whole world.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
