Experiencing Life
The Pattern of Kingdom Conflict
John 18:1-19:16
The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overtake it. John 1:5
Darkness is motivated by power; light, by service.
Darkness seeks to hide evil; light exposes evil.
To hold power accountable for corruption, light must be free to judge:
King and Priest/Judicial must remain separate offices.
GOD USES DARKNESS FOR HIS GREATER GOOD AND GLORIOUS PURPOSES!
Let’s breakdown what Jesus faced - 5 challenges in overtaking the darkness
Corrupt Politics
What is truth? (18:38)
The Christian church is not formed to overthrow the State or be the State; the church exists to call people to surrender their hearts to the rightful King and unveil the truth about God to the world.
Capitulating Priesthood
“We have no king but Caesar!” (19:15)
The more politics or political structures and systems to which religion joins itself, the more likely it will be corrupted.
The more control the State has over the priesthood, the easier it is to push through immoral agendas.
Crowd Psychosis
“Away with Him! Away with Him! Crucify Him! (19:15)
If you tell people the same thing often enough, whether or not it is true doesn’t matter.
If you get yourself a crowd and make them afraid about their well-being, even if total lies, you can get them to do anything—things they would never have imagined they were capable of doing.
Colluding Insider
Now Judas also, who was betraying Him, knew the place...(18:2)
Either personal ambition or bitterness drive betrayal.
Character-Challenged Friend
“I am not!” (18:17,25)
We all have a misstep in us. Jesus knows the difference between colluding with evil and falling prey to it.
WHO ARE YOU?
Sometime in your life you must clarify your identity—it must not depend on circumstances or what people think of you.
Christ the King!
“You are right in saying I am a king.” (18:37; cf. Jn. 19:1-3)
A-Flogged
B-A crown
C-A purple robe
B1-Hail King
A1-Struck
WHAT SIDE ARE YOU ON?
Everyone on the side of truth listens to ME! (18:37)
