Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him. (Jn. 3:36)

Ho! Every one who thirsts, come to the waters; (Is. 55:1)

1. The “water” everyone needs (4:7-18).

If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink...

Are you greater than OUR father, Jacob (Israel)?

In the day of salvation I have helped you...they will not hunger or thirst...for He who has compassion on them will guide them and will lead them to springs of water. (Is. 49:8,10)

And it will be in that day, that springs of living waters will flow out of Jerusalem,... (Zech. 14:8)

O Yahweh, the hope of Israel, all who forsake You will be put to shame. Those who turn away on earth will be written down, because they have forsaken the fountain of living water, even Yahweh. (Jer. 17:13)

Living water - the eternal life-giving God—will become in him/her a spring of water welling up to eternal life. (14)

Go and call your husband and come back...

Unless you have a real thirst for it, convinced you really need it, you won’t really want this.

“Stolen water is sweet; and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.” But he does not know that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of Sheol. (Prov. 9:17-18)

(Prov. 9) corrects the impression that men are saved or lost merely through an isolated, impulsive decision. The choice is seen ripening into character and so into destiny. (Kidner, Proverbs, 1964)

2. The worship everyone must offer (4:19-26).

Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in my statutes, and will be careful to do my commandments. (Ezk. 36:25-27)

God gives light and His Spirit through His Son as a sign of His love

Will you worship in Spirit and truth?

“I who speak to you am He.” Messiah!

3. The work every believer is called to engage (4:34-42).

My food!-->to do the will of Him who sent me...and to finish His work (34)

The mission of harvest has begun, and All believers are called to rejoice together over the fruit of sowing and reaping in whichever one is involved, and thereby accomplish HIS work.

Will you sow and reap? Reaping requires sowing, so, SOW.

Many through the word of her testimony...

Others through His words...

Some, received Him, having seen all the things He did... (4:45)—don’t usually stick it out (6:61,65,66).

His drink?-->living water
