On the Move - Wisdom for the Journey
GPS is Always Active
Deuteronomy 2:2-25
On the journey as child of God, have you ever found yourself wondering if God has forgotten about you? Have you ever experienced a sense of losing close contact with God? At times, His leading in your life seems so clear and empowering, but there may be other moments on your journey when it seems like you are alone, struggling to figure it out. In those moments, I want to encourage you to remind yourself, as Moses reminded the new generation on the move towards the Promised Land, that God’s Providential Sovereignty (Divine GPS) is always active along the way (Ps. 121).
Three lessons on trusting God’s Providential Sovereignty (GPS):
1. Trust GPS when you come to roadblocks and detours on the journey (vs. 2-8a)
- Be very careful and pay close attention to the directions God gives on the journey (vs. 4-6)
- The reviews on God’s Providential Sovereignty are impeccable (vs. 7)
- Though there may be a way that seems better in our eyes, following the GPS route is always the best for us in the end (vs. 8)
Are you frustrated with some of the ‘roadblocks and detours’ you seem to keep running into on the journey? Don’t look for shortcuts, trust God’s providential sovereignty over your journey and carefully listen and follow His directions. He is watching over every detail of your journey.
2. Trust GPS to lead you to the destination God is taking you to (vs. 8b-15)
- There are no coincidences in God’s providential sovereignty. He directs and leads people according to His will and pleasure (vs. 9-13)
- Refusing to listen to His directions, or go where He wants to take us, can be a costly, or even fatal, choice (vs. 14-15)
- As faithful as God is to His promises, so He is to His threats (vs. 15)
Are you enjoying the peace and joy that comes from knowing that God, who is sovereign over your life, has brought you to where you are right now? Or are you unsettled, always looking back at where you once were, or looking around wishing you were somewhere else? Do you fully trust that God’s providential sovereignty has brought you and landed you exactly where He wanted to take you? Be careful if you find yourself refusing to accept or to go where He wants to take you (cf. Prov. 16:9).
3. Trust GPS and move forward on the journey in faith and obedience (vs. 16-25)
- Don’t wait until tomorrow to do what God has told you to do today (vs. 17-19, 24)
- Recalling what the LORD has done will galvanize your trust in God’s providential sovereignty as you move forward (vs. 20-22)
- When we trust God’s providential sovereignty, and by faith obediently follow His direction in our lives, we will witness Him fighting for us (vs. 25)
Are you feeling stuck or forgotten on the journey as a child of God? Trust God’s providential sovereignty. He may have you on the brink of a turning point. Recall His faithfulness, by faith obey his directions, and watch Him work on your behalf.
