God has something to say to YOU about Loyalty
Hosea 1:1-14:9
“…you have eaten the fruit of deception – because you have depended on your own strength…” Hos. 10:13
The decisions you make today determine the spiritual temperature of your great grandchildren tomorrow.
“I will not punish your daughters when they turn to prostitution, because the men themselves consort with harlots.” (Hosea 4:14)
- A prostitute wife / a prostitute people (Hos. 1:2)
- The fruit of disunity and pragmatic leadership (1 Kgs 12)
- A tour of gross disloyalty (Hosea 9:10, 15, 10:5-6, 8-9)
Loyalty Alert – Beware of living in a culture that builds lives and families away from the promises of God.
“The more I called Israel, the further they went from me. They sacrificed to the Baals … My people are determined to turn from me…” (Hosea 11:2, 7)
What is the real Canadian religion?

What is our Baal worship?
-appropriate conduct / “unsafe spaces”
-economic security / “accumulations”
-business / social ethics / “dangerous behaviour”
-value of life / “inconvenience of self-absorption”
Slaying the “spirit of prostitution”
“A spirit of prostitution leads them astray, they are unfaithful to their God.” (Hosea 4:12)
-dabbling with God because you don’t really know him (Hosea 4:1, 6-7, 11-15; 5:4)
“the desensitization of frequency”
- in going through the motions, love gets left behind (Hosea 6:6; 7:8; 8:1, 5-6, 9, 11)
“normalizing immorality”
-loving the “wages of prostitution” leads to turning away from the very thing that could bring healing (Hosea 7:11; 9:1; 10:13)
“the fruit of deception”
The truth about God and the way back
“I am the LORD your God who brought you out of Egypt.” (Hosea 12:9)
“Return, O Israel to the LORD your God.” (Hosea 14:1)
-God is uniquely sovereign (10:10) – replicas deeply offend
-God is only Saviour (13:4) -- disloyalty deeply offends
-God is forgiving, full of compassion (11:8-11) – deeply desires restoration
The way back:
Acknowledge the LORD as only Saviour (13:4)
Return to the LORD, your only lover (14:1)
Repent – never again (11:5; 14:2-3)
