On the Move - Wisdom for the Journey
Don’t Miss Seeing God on the Journey
Just like the generation Moses was speaking to on the east side of the Jordan, we also, as God’s people, “live by faith, not by sight” (2 Cor. 5:7). They couldn’t see God, but they could hear Him through the prophet Moses, and they could experience His nature as He journeyed with them. Likewise, though none of us have seen God (cf. 1 Pt. 1:8-9; 2 Cor. 13:12), we too, have the privilege of hearing Him speak to us through His written Word and we can also experience His nature (the very essence of who He is) as He works in our lives personally and corporately as a church family. What an incredible reality: though we have not seen Him, we can experience God Almighty in our lives! Don’t miss seeing God on the journey!
Three attributes of God that we can see through our experience on the journey:
1. His Grace (vs. 1-6)
- We are given what we don’t deserve, undeserved favour, that cannot be earned (cf. Eph. 2:8-9)
- We have assurance and empowerment for the road ahead
- Never forget His grace, or we will become proud and self righteous (cf. Dt. 8:11-14; Micah 6:8)
Praise God, because of His grace, we experience His goodness on the journey, even though we don’t deserve it!
2. His Mercy (vs. 7-29)
- He withholds from us what we deserve, punishment for our sin
- Considering what we deserve, everyday we live is an act of God’s mercy (cf. Rom. 3:23; Rom. 6:23; Rev. 20:12-15)
- We should be earnestly pleading with the Lord, that He would allow others to experience His mercy (1 Tim. 2:1)
Praise God, because of His mercy, we will not always experience what we deserve on the journey!
3. His Faithful Love (10:1-11)
- He fulfills His promises; He is willing to restore and forgive (Phil. 1:6; 2 Pt. 3:9, 2 Chron. 7:14; Ps. 86:15)
- He reveals His word to us, this is what must guide us on our journey (cf. Ps. 119:105; cf. 1 Cor. 10:1-12; Rev. 22:18-19)
- Not all consequences of our sin here on earth will be removed, but we have the privilege of remaining in fellowship with Him (cf. Jn. 6:38-40; Jn. 10:27-30; Rom. 8:38-39)
Praise God, because of His faithful love, we will experience the blessing of new beginnings/fresh starts, second chances!
