Courageous Living | Doesn’t Just Happen

Full Service

Everyone desires, and even strives, to be strong and courageous. But courageous living doesn’t just happen. So, how does it happen What is the secret? In Joshua Chapter One there are some helpful clues that will answer that question, and they will enable us to live as strong and courageous children of God.

Courageous living happens:

1. When our faith is grounded in the promises of God (vs. 1-4)

- The LORD is trustworthy in all He promises (cf. Num. 23:19; Ps. 145:13; 2 Cor. 1:20)

- Biblical courage is fuelled by embracing God’s promises

- If we are courageous in what we are responsible to do, we can trust God to do the rest

Based on His promises, live courageously to fulfill your calling and advance His kingdom wherever He has placed you.

2. When our faith is secure in knowing God is always with us (vs. 5, 7, 17)

- Knowing that almighty, sovereign, Creator God is always with us, combats our fears and lack of courage (cf. Ps. 139:1-18; Isa. 41:10)

- Biblical courage is fuelled by taking hold of the reality of the presence of God with us (cf. Jn. 14:17)

- Our ability to obey His commands and to be strong and courageous is resourced by His provision (His promises and His presence) (cf. 2 Pt. 1:3-4)

In what areas do you need to be strong and courageous in the Lord? Do you need courage to: Make decisions that are in line with to God’s Word? Speak up against sin? Love your neighbour as yourself? Share the Gospel?

3. When our faith is guided by the Word of God (vs. 7-8, 10-18)

- Taking God’s Word seriously involves both intake and output (application) (cf. Jn. 14:15, 21; James 1:22-25)

- Biblical courage is fuelled by daily meditating on the Word of God

- Increased meditation on God’s word = Increased biblical courage

= Increased obedience to follow His commands (cf. Ps. 1:1-3)

The Lord wants us to obey right away. Do not delay in obeying what the Lord has commanded us in to do in His Word (cf. 1 Sam. 15:22; 23). We have God’s promises, His presence, His Word and His people, so be strong and courageous to follow through with what He has commanded you to do.

Courageous Living doesn’t just happen…
BUT it is possible with God!
