A Song of Freedom

Exodus 15:1-21

Full Service

In Exodus 15:1-21 we have the lyrics of the first song in the Bible. A song of Freedom directed by the Holy Spirit, written by Moses and sang by all the people. Like all worship songs I pray the lyrics of this song will encourage each of us this Remembrance Day Sunday to remember that the LORD will fight for us, we need only to be still (Ex. 14:140)

There are four stanzas to this song and each one focuses on a different aspect of God:

1. All victory belongs to the LORD (vs. 1-5)

- That is why all praise is to be directed to the LORD and is to be personal (vs. 1-2)
- Because the Lord is a warrior and he defends His own (vs. 3, cf. Dt. 1:29-32)
- He not only rescues His own but destroys their enemies (vs. 4-5)

Give Him all praise and the Glory! He alone deserves it.

2. The LORD’s majesty and power are unmatched (vs. 6-10)

- No one can stand against the power of our God
- He has dominion over creation and uses it for His purposes (vs. 8,10)
- Do not be afraid!

Dwell in the shelter of the Most High and abide in the shadow of the Almighty (Ps. 91:1)

3. He is incomparable and utterly unique (vs. 11-12)

- There is no one like our God; majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders (vs. 11, 12)
- “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one” (Dt. 6:4)

Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength (Dt. 6:5)

4. His unfailing love and strength can be trusted (vs. 13-18)

- God will faithfully lead and guide those he has redeemed (vs. 13, 17)
- Do not be afraid, others will recognize the strength of our God (vs 14-16a)
- Be still and know that He is God (Ps. 46:10) and he reigns forever and ever (vs. 18)

Be confident, He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus (Phil.1:6).

Daily give God the glory, dwell in the shelter of the Most High and abide in the shadow of the Almighty. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and be confident that He who began a good work in you will carry it onto completion until the day of Christ Jesus!
