A Faith That Never Flickered
Luke 8:1-3
“Those forgiven much, love much.” (Lk. 7:47)
Those released from much, never let go of their Liberator. (Jn. 20:17)
Consider the evidence of grace received in the life of Mary of Magdala...
1. From complete captivity of misery-producing evil to freely enlist in Jesus’ rescue mission (Lk. 8:1-3).
- Healed of seven demons
- Enlists fully in the contributing of gifts, talents, resources
- Jesus launched Christianity through the generosity of a first century woman named Mary!
2. When everyone else “called in sick”, Mary stayed at her new liberated vocation (Matt. 27:55-56, 61; Jn. 20:1-18).
At the cross...
“Now there were there many women...among them was Mary Magdalene” (27:55-56)
At the burial...
“Now there were there Mary Magdalene...and the other Mary...” (27:61)
At the resurrection...
“Now on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene...and saw...” (Jn. 20:1)
- An empty tomb
- A formation of angels
- A risen Christ
- The first convert to a Living Christ and it was a woman who first shared the Good News!!!
Faith that doesn’t flicker...
Is evidenced by a new mission in Christ
Is evidenced by robust service to Christ
Is evidenced by steadfast, indomitable, fearless loyalty toward Christ
